Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School Breaks Ground!

Our Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School broke ground on Wednesday. Hundreds of students attended the event, along with basketball legends Earl Monroe, Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier, Julius Randle— and our very own Kimberly Murphy (not a basketball legend).

The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School (EMNRBS) is the first specialized public high school with a curriculum designed entirely around basketball-related fields. “We wanted to be part of this incredibly progressive idea for a school: to not only root a school in a language that kids are already drawn to, but to broaden the expectations for a career related to the game” –Kimberly Murphy.

It was an inspiring morning with speeches from all the VIP’s including Dan Klores, the school’s founder and award-winning filmmaker, Michelle Roberts, former executive director of the National Basketball Players Association, and Walt Frazier to name a few. Students, teachers, community leaders, architects, builders, and sports personalities all came together to celebrate this milestone.

“It’s incredibly important for the students and their families to see how much support they have. How many people are cheering them on.”

ESKW/Architects is the Design Architect working with IMC Architecture as Executive Architect. The project is being developed by Pillar Property Management and built by Brisa Builders. EMNRBS Board of Trustees Vice-Chair Jack Irushalmi of Tri Star Construction Corp. leads the school development efforts.
