Bedford Green House I, Rocks!

Prior to development, Bedford Green House I’s site was underutilized and mostly functioned as a parking area and pigeon-cote due to the presence of a three-story-high outcropping of bedrock. The outcropping, which endured the onslaught of a mile-thick glacier over 20,000 years ago, was embraced by Project Renewal and the design team as a symbol of the project’s nature-based programming and the resilient New Yorkers it serves.

Initially a site challenge, it was incorporated into BGHI’s foundation and is a key feature of the building’s streetscape experience.
