Owned by Odyssey House and located in the Bronx, Lafayette Avenue is a NYS OASAS-certified Part 820 male residential addiction care facility. This major alteration to enlarge the existing 16-bed facility into a 36-bed facility includes a new brick masonry envelope, re-organization of the residential floors, extension of the dining and kitchen, and a new 4th floor. On the residential floors, circulation and bedrooms are organized to be daylight-filled and restorative. Clinical offices are centrally located on each residential floor for access and improved surveillance. Administrative offices on the ground floor are adjacent to the dining room which opens to a cozy rear yard. The 2nd floor lounge will be used daily by all residents for group sessions among other programs. The lounge’s ample southern exposure accommodates a horticulture therapy program and gives residents a casual place to interact. Physical health and wellness is central to the Odyssey House care model, so a recreation room is provided adjacent to the medical services. Building materials and brick detailing were thoughtfully selected to blend in with and serve to enhance the neighborhood.
