Color and Public Art at the New Childcare Center, Beach Channel Drive

Located in Far Rockaway near the ocean in a residential district, this two-story daycare center accommodates 165 children. Strong colors (sunny yellow, bold blue and warm brick red) bring a sense of playfulness to the building and complement the site’s proximity to the ocean. The ocean life motifs on the perimeter fence and corridor floors are entitled “Ocean Fence and Ocean Floor” and were designed by artist Julie Dermansky under the New York Department of Cultural Affairs’ Percent for Arts Program.
