19th Century Ribbon Mill Turned Charter School

New Heights Academy Charter School is located in a “K”-shaped landmark building originally built in 1885 as a silk ribbon mill. Before the renovation, the school included spaces in the Cellar, First and Second floors. The expansion allowed the school to expand into most of the three-story building, effectively increasing its student population to 750. In an original double height space previously serving as a church sanctuary, steel beams were installed spanning the 50’ masonry walls. This accommodated a new floor and 6 new classrooms.
