As the flagship and largest of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s sites, the Lucille Palmaro Clubhouse has enriched hundreds of children’s lives daily through arts, academics and athletics since 1969. Working with the Club’s leaders and directors, we renovated program rooms and the Games Room, the heart of the Club. A large, new, single-slope skylight replaces the original skylights which had been abandoned for energy and maintenance reasons. Daylight now floods the spaces, while deep, colorful seating nooks provide spaces for members to gather and interact. The original brick fireplace, restored with its copper hood, anchors the room as a warm, communal focal point. Program rooms connected to the Games Room feature various vision panels and "peek-a-boo" windows which inspire curiosity between the activities and age groups. The renovations enliven and bring fresh energy to the Club’s mission to support members reaching their full potential.
